Surfing in Swansea – Discover the Best Waves in Wales

Swansea is home to some of the finest surfing beaches in the UK, with the Gower Peninsula offering consistent Atlantic swells, stunning scenery, and surf suitable for everyone from complete beginners to experienced riders.

At the heart of it all is Rhossili Bay – widely regarded as the jewel of Welsh surfing. Stretching for almost three miles beneath the iconic Worm's Head, Rhossili combines breathtaking natural beauty with reliable surf conditions throughout the year. The beach offers plenty of space, uncrowded line-ups, and waves suitable for beginners looking to learn as well as surfers wanting long, clean rides. Rhossili's unique geography also provides shelter from certain wind directions, often creating quality surf when other locations are struggling.

Just to the north lies Llangennith, one of the UK's most renowned surf destinations. Facing directly into the Atlantic, it receives some of the most consistent swell in South Wales and is popular with surfers of all abilities. When conditions are pumping, Llangennith delivers powerful waves and excellent surf throughout the year.

Together, Rhossili and Llangennith form Swansea's premier surf coastline. Whether you're taking your first lesson, progressing your skills, or chasing quality waves, the Gower Peninsula offers an unforgettable surfing experience surrounded by some of the most spectacular coastal scenery in Britain.

My Story

My Journey to BAE Surf School – Sharing the Best of Swansea Surfing

When people think of Swansea, many think of its city centre, marina, university, and beautiful coastline. For me, Swansea has always meant something different. It means the sea. It means adventure. It means the Gower Peninsula and some of the best surfing beaches anywhere in the UK.

My journey to creating BAE Surf School started long before the business itself. Over the years, I have worked as a teacher, coach, mentor, and professional performer, helping people develop confidence, skills, and a sense of achievement. Yet whenever I had the chance, I found myself returning to the coastline of Swansea.

The Swansea coastline is unique. Within a short distance, you can find sheltered bays, dramatic cliffs, world-famous beaches, and some of the most consistent surf in Wales. It is a place where complete beginners can catch their first wave and where experienced surfers can continue challenging themselves year after year.

As my passion for surfing grew, so did my belief that Swansea deserved a surf school that was about more than simply teaching people to stand on a board. I wanted to create a place where people could experience everything that makes Swansea special. A place where visitors and locals alike could discover the incredible coastline that so many people pass by without ever truly experiencing.

That vision became BAE Surf School.

Based on Swansea's world-renowned Gower Peninsula, BAE Surf School was created to help people experience surfing in a way that is fun, welcoming, and inspiring. Whether you're visiting Swansea for the first time, holidaying on the Gower, or you're a local resident looking to try something new, our goal is to help you build confidence in the water while enjoying one of the most beautiful parts of Wales.

Of all the surfing locations around Swansea, one place stands above the rest: Rhossili Bay.

Rhossili is not just one of the best beaches in Swansea. It is regularly recognised as one of the best beaches in the UK and one of the most beautiful coastal locations in Europe. Every day, visitors travel from Swansea, Cardiff, Bristol, and beyond to experience its stunning views, vast golden sands, and incredible Atlantic waves.

For surfing, Rhossili offers something truly special. The beach stretches for miles, providing space that few other Swansea beaches can match. There is room for beginners to learn safely, room for families to enjoy the beach, and room for surfers of all abilities to spread out and enjoy the ocean. Unlike many crowded surf spots, Rhossili allows people to relax, learn, and progress at their own pace.

Just a few minutes away lies Llangennith, another legendary Swansea surf destination. Known throughout the UK surfing community, Llangennith provides consistent waves and a thriving surf culture. Together, Rhossili and Llangennith make Swansea one of the UK's premier surfing destinations.

However, Rhossili remains at the heart of BAE Surf School. Every time I walk down the path overlooking Worm's Head and see the beach stretching into the distance, I'm reminded why I chose Swansea as the home for this journey. The landscape is breathtaking, the waves are welcoming, and there is a sense of freedom that is difficult to find elsewhere.

What makes Swansea truly special is that surfing here is about more than waves. It is about connecting with nature, spending time outdoors, improving physical and mental wellbeing, and becoming part of a community that values the coastline and everything it offers.

BAE Surf School was built on those values.

We are proud to call Swansea home. We are proud to teach on the beaches of the Gower Peninsula. Most importantly, we are proud to introduce people from Swansea, Wales, and around the world to the incredible experience of surfing in Rhossili Bay.

For us, Swansea is not simply where we work.

It is why we exist.

And there is no better place to begin your surfing journey than right here on the coastline of Swansea.
